Cairo – Mubasher: Deposits at the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) rose by 17-20% during the last three years, while funds in the banking sector hit EGP 2 trillion by the end of 2014, said Tarek Fayed, the bank’s deputy governor.
Meanwhile, loans extended by the central bank grew by 10% in the three-year period, Fayed said in a speech at an economic conference held Wednesday.
The official also stated that the central bank is considering new mechanisms to boost the client base of mobile banking services, which reached 2 million in 2014.
